day 1 - tuesday jam @ sugarhill
hosted by joi and powered by a dope house band this jam session showcases some of atlanta's most talented soul/funk/rock singers. this night was highlighted by phillippia and her gut bustin' rendition of "i'm so hood". i know, i know but you had to hear it. she really kilt it (ha!). and joi's hosting duties didn't stop
day 2 - sol fusion's 5th anniversary ft. bilal
for five years sol fusion (brainchild of atl super promoter j carter) has been bringing live soul and funk to atl, and this year they celebrated by bringing one of soul's most elusive artists to centerstage. bilal who hasn't released a studio album since his 2001 debut second born first, brought the house down! the 800+ in attendance were treated to a rocked out rendition of "fastlane", a sunday-go-to-meeting-esque version of "sometimes" (a few folks caught the holy ghost), and a never-ending-band-walking-off-the-damn-stage edition of "soul sister" to close to show. additionally
shit was dope! if you ever get the chance to see bilal live, make sure you go. and for those of you that don't get that opportunity, bilal has recorded a live cd that will give you a little taste (holla at hawk to get yours).
here's a little video clip of the show (and yes that's me talking about rockports in the vid).
enjoy the music...
